A New Degree for Health Informatics Leaders

The healthcare landscape continues to evolve, increasing the demand for highly trained health information technology leaders. The Doctorate in Health Informatics (DHI) from the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics is custom-built for executive-level professionals.

This first-of-its-kind program in the nation aims to provide informatics leaders with the optimal education required to translate evidence from original research, evaluate current practices and utilize critical thinking to accelerate the adoption of best practices for informatics projects.

This session describes how the program demonstrates evidence-based quality improvement in healthcare information technology to meet contemporary needs in the healthcare industry. The projects of two successful DHI candidates are presented. The projects were implemented within a healthcare organization using the programs processes bridging scholarship and applied informatics.
