The global health ecosystem is undergoing a digital transformation that has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.  As healthcare organizations lean into new technologies and care models, we will see the personalized patient care mission become stronger and more valuable worldwide.

HIMSS and its Trust Partners—Accenture, The Chartis Group and ZS— worked with hundreds of clinicians, patients, health system leaders and payer organizations from around the world in an effort to better understand what is shaping how care is delivered. The research cited in this report was conducted in November and December of 2021.

The 2022 State of Healthcare Report reflects the opinions of clinicians, payers, and patients on digital transformation, as well as their strong beliefs in the promise and potential of personalized care.

Key insights from the 2022 report include:

Digital Transformation

• One-third of clinicians face barriers to successful digital transformation
• 79% of U.S.-based and 69% of international health system leaders say their organizations are still in the digital transformation planning phase
• 70% of U.S.-based and 78% of international payers say digital care adoption helps address health equity challenges

Personalized Care

• 58% of clinicians believe personalized patient care increases overall patient satisfaction
• More than half of patients in the U.S. and U.K. believe their providers are partnering with them to manage their health and offer personalized care
• Only one-third to one-half of patients believe the healthcare they receive is a good or very good value in relation to the time and/or money they put in
